It was a beautiful day. The sun was sliding down in the dark blue sky, lazy clouds pulling themselves along like they hadn't a care in the world. Birds were singing in the trees and people dotted the grassy area of the park. Children ran around, parents followed them at a slower, leisurely pace, laughing and talking about their grown-up things. Teen couples were everywhere, holding hands and thinking their carefree thoughts. You would hardly think this was a place that, not two years ago, was shaken from events that to this day were not fully understood.
Of course, Rio only observed this peace from a distance; heaven forbid she try and join it. She adjusted the cap she was wearing, which tamed her red hair if only just. She was wearing a pair of worn overalls and, of all things, a rake and broom were her companions for the day. Her belongings were stashed in a tree somewhere; she would collect them at the end of the day when the park was clean. This was yet another job she was just doing because she didn't actually want to sleep in the park. Not that she minded it too much, though. Watching the people was actually somewhat fascinating.
She strolled down the paths and sidewalks at a leisurely pace, using her tools intermittently as she walked. She hummed under her breath as she walked, paying more attention to the people around her than to the trash on the ground. Every now and then she would stop and watch an interesting development before starting on her journey again. To her, the day seemed to beautiful to waste working...she'd rather be curled up somewhere sleeping.
But money was money, and she liked money.
After awhile, though, the sun beating on her back became a little bit more than she could bear and she sought out the shade of a nearby tree. She laid her rake down, but kept the broom as support. Her eyes slid around the park again. She was basicallydoing the exact same thing she had been before...but this time she wasn't lying and calling it "work".
