FULL NAME|| Ashur Rylis Grey NICKNAME(S)|| AGE|| Twenty-Seven GROUP|| Military NATIONALITY|| Amestrian OCCUPATION|| State Alchemist - Colonel CANON OR ORIGINAL|| Original
ALCHEMIST?|| Yes ABILITIES/TECHNIQUES||
Ashur's body is covered in a series of various transmutation circles. These transmutation seals transmute the light that enters through Ashur's eye, turning the light into a physical substance called luxin. There are seven types of luxin, with each having its own unique physical properties. The number seven is due to the seven colors in the visible spectrum. As said, each of the seven substances have their own characteristics as well as effect Ashur's mind differently.
Luxin still falls under most laws of physics, having weight, density and so forth. Even if Ashur launches a ball of it from his hand the force of the launch will cause the arm to recoil, which limits how much power can be utilized safely, although there are ways to minimize this. It should also be noted that Ashur has to be able to see the colors he is drafting. For example, when using blue he has to see the blue sky or water. The one loophole around this though is when he uses a pair of colored spectacles.
The actual process of turning light into physical matter is an impossibility, what this is is not light turned to matter by itself, but taking the radiation from light and mixing it into natural elements such as carbon, oxygen, hydrogen and so forth to make a new matter. It is still compromised of traditional elements, but has through unique structuring and heavy doses of radiation become something entirely new.
The long terms effects of creating luxin have, as of yet been undetermined. It is however is expected that utilizing radiation such as this will shorten his life span between five to thirty years. Being a soldier though Ashur is not really concerned with this, seeing as he is more likely to die on the battlefield then anywhere else. The only immediate effect seen with utilizing luxin is that should he excessive amounts without relief he will first become sick, then exhausted and if by some chance he pushes himself even further he may very well die from it.
First up is ultra-violet, which main strength is that it is impossible to see with the naked eye. Being at the highest end of the spectrum it is impossible to see save for if someone is using a violet colored lens, focusing on a specific area and even then it is barely visible. It is also extremely light, having little more weight than air itself. Apart from this, it's other strength is just that, its strength. Generally it is used in thin threads and these threads are as strong as fine steel cable.
Combine that with the fact that it is extremely thin (as thick as a sewing needle.) This enables it to be used as a razor wire against charging troops, but it can also be used as just a thread attached to a target to keep track of them or even to act a guide line for a luxin projectile. The emotion associated with Ultra-Violet is a removed outlook on life, accompanied with appreciation for irony and sarcasm.
The next color is blue, which is the strongest of all the luxin in terms of hardness. It is stronger than tungsten and almost as strong as diamond, but at the same time though it is brittle to great kinetic force. A wall of blue luxin might defend against a bolder thrown, but would generally have an indent and several cracks. Blades made of blue luxin are without equal in terms of sharpness, able to cut through even other metals such as iron or steel and leave very large gouges in stone.
The uses for blue luxin are very extensive, with Ashur able to craft armor, walls, projectiles and stairways from it as he needs to. The emotions associated with blue luxin is a pure and cold logic, the need for order and rules, as well as a highly inquisitive nature. While using the blue Ashur feels the need to understand why something is happening and may very well stop fighting if he doesn't understand something. At the same time though jobs of a tedious nature or that require it be done perfectly are solved far more easily while harnessing this.
The next color is green, this luxin is second in strength only to blue, but unlike blue which is unyielding, green is flexible and can be quite springy. One could easily compare it to rubber, save that it is far, far stronger than rubber could ever dream to be. The uses for green luxin are nearly endless. It could be added to Ashur's legs to increase the height of his jump, Ashur could be covered in it head to toe, the green luxin repelling blunt attacks against it. It should be noted that if the coating of luxin is made thick enough it can stop and capture bullets that are fired towards him and by coating the bullets in luxin they could be fired away from Ashur.
All in all green is the most versatile of all luxin and it's uses range vastly. The emotion associated with it covers a vast amount of emotions, but to summarize it in one word it is wildness. Ashur will become extremely impulsive and will constantly improvise which can prove useful, but also reckless. At the same time while using this he will not truly be able to recognize orders, commanding officer or any authority. He will simply do as he pleases until he releases hold of the green luxin. While it is arguably the strongest of the luxin it is also the most dangerous to use.
Yellow luxin is the next color, it might very well be considered one of the weakest of luxin's on its own, but strong in its own right. Yellow luxin's main strength is that it can repair other luxin. For example, if a blue wall were to have a hollow space with yellow luxin within, if it took damage the yellow luxin would repair the cracks in the blue at the cost of itself.
That is not its only use however, for all intents and purposes yellow luxin is light in liquid form, sometimes referred to as bright water by those who have seen it. When Ashur wishes he can have the liquid revert back to its natural light state, this allowing for bright flashes of light that can blind people. The emotion associated with yellow is that of balance, he is perfectly in balance with all of his emotions and while he registers his emotions he can choose to ignore them if he must. This is perhaps the safest of all the colors to use.
Up next is orange luxin, which is the heaviest of all luxin. It's main property though is how slick it is, with it being thousands of times slicker than ice or grease. In fact it is so slippery that friction of an object moving over it becomes nearly zero. This allows for very large objects to be pushed with the smallest of effort and also can make it difficult for people to walk let alone run.
Only Ashur can truly move fast while on it and that is by making spikes of luxin on his feet to stab through the orange and if those spikes are also made of orange when Ashur slides his foot and stabs it in, in quick succession it could almost be like skating on ice. The emotion associated with orange is a very powerful empathy with others and a slight fatherly attitude.
Red luxin is one of the most dangerous of luxins, arguably the most dangerous if you base it just by its properties. It is extremely sticky with close to one-hundred times the adhesiveness of tar, with only the concentrated application of vinegar able to disolve it without also setting it aflame. It is also in the form of a thick viscous goo. The truly deadly aspect of this red goo is the fact that it is extremely flammable, burning at temperatures a little higher than napalm, but not as hot as thermite.
The smallest of sparks can set this off, even a warm coal could set it off. This makes it extremely dangerous to enemies, but also extremely dangerous to Ashur as if a spark went off while he was forming it into a ball while near him it could burst into flames consuming him too. The emotion that comes with this is a quick temper, arrogance and a vast love for destruction.
The last color is sub-red, which is the only aspect of light that is not some type of physical matter. No, instead sub-red is the viewing and manipulation of heat. This ranges from dissipating heat away from his surroundings or from the warmth of the sun. This can be used to ignite red luxin as well as to cause minor burns from heat which is only seen as a slight shimmer in the air. The emotion associated with sub-red is just passion, in whatever Asur is doing at the time and lust for many things, but most noted the opposite sex.
It is this ability to transmute radiation from light into a matter to create new substances that has gained Ashur the reputation he has. Well. . . that and for his personality which demands to follow orders no matter whether he likes them or not. Aside from the transmutation of light he has the same abilities to transmute other materials, but naturally also requires transmutation circles, with the ones that he has tattood to his body only working for light. As well as the abilities most soliders have, such a an adequate skill in firearms as well as hand to hand combat, with only swords being a better than average.
i will be the one that's gonna hold you THE APPEARENCE i will be the one that you run to •••
HAIR|| Black EYES|| Dull Gold HEIGHT/WEIGHT|| 6'4'' 201 lbs. GENERAL DESCRIPTION|| All in all Ashur Grey is often thought of as a handsome man by most women who meet him. What with his tall and muscular frame combined with black locks of hair that fall wherever they wish and still manage to look good. While many think this is handsome, the true beauty of his body are his eyes. While they at times can seem dull and uncaring, they often make people think that he is able to see past things straight to someone's core and understand them. More than a few women have thrown themselves at him, sadly though they tend to meet rejection. . .
Moving from Ashur's body to his clothing people will see that he prefers to wear more formal attire, often choosing suits or high class clothing when off duty and wearing his uniform at all times when on duty save for when he must blend in. the other notable difference is his unifrom itself, it being a dark black instead of the more common blue and bearing upon it (save for when he knowss he will be going to comabt) two commedation medals. The reason for this was due to Ashur having been part of a group of alchemists who during Furher Bradley's reign acted as secret police of a sort, going throughout the country and bringing back information and at times getting rid of those who caused too many problems.
Ashur continues to wear it for two reasons. One, because it helps to unsettle people which could possibly give him an advantage. The second and main reason though is that he sees it as a reminder that while he must follow orders there are times when orders must be broken. . . no matter how much he dislike breaking his word, that at times it must be done to keep other oaths. .
Aside from that Ashur only carries a few things on his person. These being the various items or weapons that he needs as a soldier. The weapons being a .45 calibur pistol holstered on the back of his belt and a custom rifle that looks strikingly similiar to a cane. This rifle can hold and fire five thirty-calibur rifle rounds, but also is often used to fire a round made of luxin. Aside from this Ashur also carries twelve large flares with him, custom made so that there are two for each color of the spectrum, with the heat being utilized for his seventh color (sub-red) and the last useful item Ashur carries are seven pairs of spectacles, each being a different color in accordance with the seven spectrums. (Sub-red being much darker than normal red.) .
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES|| There are few distinguishing features that Ashur has. In fact there are only two real features at all. The first is hidden by his clothing for the most part, but if one where to see him with his shirt off they would see a series of lines and various patterns tattoos spreading across his flesh. These tattoos are necesary for him to transmute light into a physical substance and are the source of his strength. The other notable feature is his scars. Ashur has a burn on his right forearm, a large scar from a gash on his left side and a discolored patch on the back of his left shoulder, mirrored in the front by a small circle of discolored flesh. The circle was the entry point, while the mark on the back was the exit wound where he was shot.
my love is a burning, consuming fire THE PERSONALITY no you'll never be alone •••
LIKES|| • Military life • Responsibilty • Honorable people • Alchemy • Working with his hands DISLIKES|| • Arrogance • Dishonorable people • Lying • Needy or clingy women • Paperwork GENERAL PERSONALITY|| The summarize the man known as Ashur Grey in one word is difficult to say the least, but that word would have to be honorable. Ashur believes in following orders whether you like them or not and has only broken orders once in his life in order to help against the upper brass in the Battle for Central. There are of course other traits about him that one might consider honorable. First and foremost being that he does not lie save when he is ordered to or has to in order to save lives, he does not kill unarmed people unless again he is ordered to or has to in order to protect others.
Of course this sort of honor comes with its own price though, it has not won him many friends in life with many thinking him cold, distant, stuffy and even arrogant. In truth though he normally hates arrogance and believes people should not act as such. He normally will not comment if someone is being arrogant, but that does not mean he likes it any better.
It should also be said that he loves the military. Not just for the pay and perks like some others, but instead truly loves the military life. He always had a love for order and rules and the military supplies both as well as a purpose for him in life. He enjoys the bonds people make while serving together (although he does not have other military personel close to him) and believes in helping your comrades so long as it does not break orders.
Most of all he loves that he is able to serve his country, he one of the rare patriots who believes everyone should work towards making their country better. It is part of the reason he loves alchemy so much; the possibilities it gives for him to not only better himself, but to better the his country and the world as well and while the idea of bettering the entire world has faded since he was a child, the dream of bettering his country remains.
The last thing I will bring up is his views on women. While he is a man who believes in honor and might hold a door for a woman, he is a man who prefers self-sufficent and strong women. This is the reason he has stayed single for such a long time and throws away the few advancements he gets from what he considers "needy" women. Whether or not he will ever find real love is unknown and while he rarely shows interest, the wish to find a woman does like deep within his mind right next to the wish for real friends.

PARENTS|| Alexander Grey - Father - Deceased Rowelyn Grey - Mother - Deceased SIBLINGS|| Desmond Grey - Younger Brother - Living in Central Allison Grey - Younger Sister - Alive - Living in Central OTHER FAMILY|| Markis Grey - Uncle (Father's Older Brother) - Deceased Michael Grey - Nephew - Alive - Living in Central SPOUSE|| None at this time CHILDREN|| None at this time HISTORY|| Ashur was the eldest child born in East City to a small time alchemist who had not been able to get taken as a state alchemist despite his best efforts. His father made a meager living fixing various items with alchemy as well as running a small cafe' with his wife that the soldiers often frequented. Once Ashur was old enough his father started teaching him the basics of alchemy as well as had Ashur help with the cafe.
Unlike his father, Ashur had a true talent for alchemy, quickly becoming better than his father at the age of ten where he proceeded to begin his own research. Of course, one can only do real research with the best materials and as such Ashur had to plead for state alchemists who ate at the cafe to allow him to copy alchemy books they had access to. So laughed right in his face and told him to stick to sweeping, but thankfully some helped him.
For the next few years Ashur worked towards a goal, an idea that he had one late night. If a material could be made into light through burning or a chemical reaction, why could light not become a material through alchemy? This was the principle of his work that some alchemists thought was interesting enough, but had never been able to do.
It took Ashur until he was fifteen to finally crack the problem with turning light into a physical substance, well three problems. The first was that you could not turn white light straight into a substance, you had to turn the individual colors of the spectrum into substances. The second, more serious problem was that light was not a physical substance, as such no matter how you utilized it you could not turn it into a physical substance. The solution was that he had to stop trying to turn light solid, but to create a solid substance with the radiation from light.
Ashur had no idea just how lucky he was to have survived the first attempt. By turning light into a phsyical substance with his body acting as the channel for the radiation he easily could have easily killed himself with too large of a dose or not using up all the radiation in the transformation of the material. It took months longer still to perfect making different substances from each light, but he had done it. . .
It was at this point that Ashur decided to surpass his father and took the test to become a state alchemist. When it came to him showing his talent he created all the phsyical substances of light one by one and showed them to the testers, who were especially impressed by the destructive force of red luxin. He was immediately certified a state alchemist and given a large grant to begin more detailed testing.
Over the course of a few years he perfected the method of using luxin and was asked to try and teach others how to utilize luxin. Of course Ashur tried, but he never could succeed. To be able to utilize luxin a person had to be a superchromat, someone who could recognize the finest difference in color. On top of that many alchemists simply could not skillfully administor the radiation into their substances, often injuring or killing themselves in the process.
In the end the process was deemed too dangerous to try and teach others, but Ashur's usefullness was not affected. Instead of trying to teach this they now let him research uses for luxin; both mundane uses and uses for combat. It soon proved to be more effective in combat that any other uses, but research continued for both, with Ashur even presenting a gift of luxin to the Furher. The gift while not large was still stunning, a ball of the solid luxins with yellow and red swirling within and sub-red giving off a mild heat. This item decorated the Furher's home for many years and brought true recognition to Ashur's name within the eyes of the Furher.
(Skipping a few years)
At the age of eighteen Ashur decided he would further his service to the country by joining the military. While Ashur's mother was supportive of this choice, Ashur's father saw his eldest son's growing talent and was resentful, to the point where he actually disowned Ashur. Of course the father failed to explain this to Desmond, who thought he was leaving them behind entirely just because he wanted to. His brother was fourteen and studying to become a state alchemist just like Ashur was, and felt as if Ashur were abandoning him. Ashur had up until that point been helping his brother study alchemy as well as other things, finding it nice that his younger brother wanted to be just like him. Even though he was sad to leave his brother he had his orders from both the military to transfer and from his father to never come back. . .Without looking back Ashur left East city and headed to the West where they were in need of a Major and alchemist to fill the ranks, especially with the skirmishes that had been happening there in the many years.
It was there that he began to get truly experienced. Constantly Amestris was skirmishing with the Aerugans over where the border actually fell. While it was not a large scale war the skirmishes were fierce with high casuality rates on both sides. At times it was the alchemists of West City alone that made it possible to hold against the forces and at other times they scarcely had to do anything. It was during this time that Ashur continued to build his reputation as a brilliant alchemist and better yet, as a loyal soldier.
During one particular skirmish, Ashur did something that brought him fear from some of his fellow soliders due to what he did. While under the influence of blue luxin, in a logical state of mind; Ashur came to the conclusion that he would need red luxin in order to stop an advance by enemy soldiers. With his red lenses lost on the battlefield somewhere and the dirt having turned the red of blood into brown he decided he needed fresh blood. As such he drafted more blue and killed three of the men under his command so as to make more blood, red to utilize red luxin. It worked, but naturally the men reported him for it.
When he was brought to trial Ashur remarked that he had in fact been under the effect of blue luxin and that logically, it made more sense to lose three men then to lose all his men and the hilltop they had been defending. The brass were reluctant to condone such actions, but after the Furher heard he said that it had been the only thing to be done and even gave Ashur a commendation medal for as the Furher called it "Resolute service." Some of the men were not happy though, often calling the award a comdemnation medal. . . Still, Ashur took it in stride. He had followed his orders and held the hilltop against superior numbers. As an added benefit while his subordinates did not trust or even like him, they would follow his orders swiftly for fear of his retribution. . . To Ashur, this was a win. . .
(Skipping a few years)
A year before alchemists were sent to Ishval to pacify them, Ashur was transferred there to help with "policing" which in truth was more asassination and arresting those who spoke about fighting back too loudly. This was when Ashur started down the path to becoming one of the Furher's most loyal dogs, it was also when he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel. Ashur mentioned to the Furher that he believed doing such things would only provoke the conflict, but he only mentioned it once. When the Furher told him to put such thoughts out of his mind, Ashur did just that. Soon though Ashur's predicitions came true and the Ishval Civil War truly began with state alchemists being sent to Ishval in large numbers. Ashur was already there, but many, many more came and between all of them they loosed savage destruciton upon the land.
Ashur and the men under him were used as reinforcements, sending them to work with other battalions as the need for more men arose. At one point Ashur and his men were actually sent to work with several (now prominent) members of the military, namely a Major Roy Mustang and the forces with him. Mustang and him butted heads on a few matters, mainly the interpretations of orders, but all in all Ashur respected the man thinking him a fine alchemist and a decent soldier. Naturally though Ashur was soon off, working with other battalions as the need arose for more men.
In that time he served with other prominent alchemists and soldiers, but never made any strong ties with any of them. Hell. . . Ashur did not even have strong ties with his own family, with Ashur only learning that his brother Desmond had joined as a state alchemist when he ran into him on the field. The brothers fought together helping to protect one another as the two of them alone fought off several dozen Ishvalans, but afterwards when Desmond expected a warm reunion, Ashur merely walked off back towards the barracks. With this type of reaction it is easy to see why he never made friends. . .
IT was not that he hated his brother, quite the opposite really. . . he loved his brother and sister and because he had seen how people had been used he continued to further the distance that started with his father's disowning him. In fact he had been the person to use people as collateral at the orders of the Furher. . . he would not have that for his family. So he kept away, only making sure to do his duty that his sister and nephew had an adequate life when he heard of his parents and uncle's deaths due to the war.
(Skipping a bit, want to get this finished so I can rp.)
In the years following the war Ashur continued to work directly for the Furher, being put within a battalion that acted as the Furher's secret police. They killed, kidnapped, stole and destroyed at the orders of the Furher. In this time Ashur's emotions truly became tempered to the injustices and travesties of the Furher's rule. While many might have rebelled, Ashur worked under the idea of whether it was right or wrong he had promised to serve the Furher and his country.
He saw himself something akin to a doctor, cutting out the undesirables and anarchists from Amestris. In truth though he was being decieved. People he killed or threatened were not people set against the country, but set against the Furher. Within this time Ashur followed every order given to him, even recieved the rank of Colonel and another commendation for service rendered to the country.
(Battle for Central)
On the so called Promised Day, the day a battle raged through the streets of Central, Ashur was there like many other soldiers loyal to the Furher. While Ashur had not been included in the offer of immortality he still served the Furher. At least, he had until that day. Where he overheard generals speaking of what was to come. . . what they intended for the country he had strived so hard to serve. This left him in a predicament. . . which oath did he honor? Did he honor his oath to serve the Furher loyaly or did he honor his oath as a soldier to protect the country from those that would do it harm. . . both those outside and within?
It took Ashur only about five minutes to decide. . . he left command to gather the men under him and the military police and helped with the assault. He tried to keep casualties to a minimum, but everytime he was under the influence of red or green he killed freely. That day he lost men, killed comrades, betrayed orders and helped overthrow the people he swore to serve. . . He left after everything was settled and the victors decided, stopping only long enough to drop off paperwork detailing the use of all days he had gained over the years, having never used a single one.
For months he simply drifted, trying to come to terms with what he done and they merely went by in a flash, never soothing his wounded honor. He requested to be sent to any duty save Central and a former member of the Furher's guard was kind enough to pass it through. Even when serving at other command posts he went through life mechanical, never talking unless necessary and never getting over what he had done.
Now he is back in Central for the first time in two years. He has still not come to terms with himself or his actions, but knows that it had to be done. At times he thinks of leaving the military, leaving the country. Other, more darker thoughts also plague his mind. . . to leave everything behind has crossed his thoughts more than once. . . Ashur's only chance at a somewhat normal life is finding something or someone who can help him come to terms with what he did.
