Maybe it was the lack of exposure in her life that drew Ashe to being outside or near large groups of people. You always wanted what you couldn’t have. Raised to be prim and proper, all Ashe ever wanted was to do anything but. The little sword fighting practices or the fun chocobo races she was allotted every once in a while, when no one else was watching, of course. Heaven forbid she get caught doing the practically ‘unspeakable’ things. She’d never understand what it was about being perfect in the eyes of everyone and having no fun that demanded so much of everyone else. Here she was, far past the age of a child, and she still found herself dabbling in childish things.

Like the present, for instance. It wasn’t raining out (at least, not yet), but it wasn’t necessarily sunshine and butterflies, either. Ashe suspected part of that was due to the location; Midgar was never a place she had heard got much sunlight. Silently, she wished she could bring the sun to this place and hope that with it came the smiles of the people that never seemed to look very happy. She’d left Esthar City before the sun was even up to make it to Midgar in a timely manner. Ashe didn’t really have any plans, but she also didn’t have any better way of spending her day. Thus, she took to wandering the city until she found something that caught enough of her attention.

Slowly, as the day passed, her own heart found itself feeling heavier. All the faces of unhappy people as she passed reminded her of her own goal in life – the one she wasn’t making much of an effort to fulfill. Ashe wanted to be the cause of smiles and better lives, unlike the life-ruining Shinra. Her only problem was that she didn’t even know where to start. Ashelia very well doubted that any resistance group that had any intelligence would let some crazy, goal-oriented Royal in on a whim. On the contrary, she was more waiting in the shadows for a good opportunity to arise. That was part of why she loved to travel on her own. With any luck, she was hoping she’d meet someone that she could get an in with.

At about midday, Ashe found a quaint little food place and picked up something to snack on as she wandered. It was a bit plain for her tastes, but she figured they also didn’t have the luxuries she was allowed. She found a peaceful little spot near a playground to sit down and enjoy her food. Ashe watched as young children came and went to play, even making herself smile. She envied their rather carefree lifestyles, even though she knew some of them probably didn’t even have homes to go to when night came. However, they still managed to smile, despite the hardships they faced in their young lives. "Oh, if only everyone could be that way..." Ashe leaned back on the bench she was seated on, finished with her lunch, and just watched the carefree kids with a sad, serene smile and casually crossed her ankles.
