A promise. He had her full attention, then. Winry sat
up straight, looking back into his eyes. So sincere... as
much of a jerk and a brat he could be, when Ed made
a promise? He kept it. That was something she knew
for certain. They might forget to call, or might come back
to her shop banged up and battle worn, or appear out
of the blue after months of worrying, but they never
broke promises. They seemed almost sacred to them.
So when one said "promise", it was a sure thing.
Upon hearing the promise, though, her eyes grew wider,
then almost sad as she looked down at her hands in
her lap. Stay... the rest of his life? Those were pretty
heavy words... they almost worried her. Ed? To stay
for the rest of his life? Goodness that seemed... in a
sense, nice, but it bugged a part of her, made her
uneasy. She felt almost like a burden to him, like she
was holding him back. She only gave a nod in response,
and didn't say anything as they got up and walked again.
When he took her hand, she took his back, silent still.
She looked up to the sky, frowning a bit. So perfect...
the date was perfect, things seemed so perfect... too
perfect. It scared her, almost. For things to be going so
well... she wondered when the bump was coming,
where there would be a slip up of some sort, what she
was overlooking, the problem. Not that she wasn't happy,
because she was... it was all just so strange, so different,
so fast... Her mind raced, and she almost didn't hear
him speak. She actually jumped at the sound of his voice.
"Oh, um... well... yeah. It is..."
