I'm leaving Central! Yay! My first vacation in forever, papa was always working, but, he loved us just the same! Elicia wiggled in the seat, they had been on the train for a while now and Elicia couldn't handle the fact she was not aloud to run around asking millions of questions and in general being a nuissance. One more hour of this... just one more...
The moment they got off the train trecked to their hotel Elicia begged to go out and explore. Gracia was obviously tired but, not enough to let her daughter go alone. So Elicia took Rose. The puppy was extremely hyper and was practically exploding with happiness. Elicia clipped the bright pink leash to Rose's matching pink collar and walked down the stairs and out of the hotel. Thank goodness mother found a hotel that would let Rose come...
The air was nice and cold outside but, Gracia had made sure Elicia was well bundled in a light purple coat and matching scarf. A white knit hat covering her messy brown hair and some nice gloves as well. She walked along with Rose, happy as a clam. It was snowing, for real! "Rose! I just love snow!"

The Brigg’s mountain range was finally behind Yuri. He had never imagined that he’d find his way to the opposite side of it, in the past he hadn’t any desire to see what there was down south. Now he did though, and he was here, that officially made him an immigrant into Amestris. Ah but seriously, what with all this snow, the appearance of the city he now stood in bore quite the resemblance to what he was used to.
The boy felt a chill wind brush past his coat, it bit at his face with icy teeth yet it wasn’t anything he wasn’t already used to. He’d have to do better than this though, his journey was going to take him farther south if he had anything to say about it. For the time being, however, Yuri intended to stay in North City… at least until he could manage to figure out how one went about acquiring passage on a train south. It wasn’t as if he had the money for it… so yeah there was that…
There were plenty of people in the streets, and on the sidewalks, but it so happened that the one Yuri’s attention drifted to was a young girl. In particular, because she was headed his way, which would have been completely fine with him and all to just pass by each other. But she had an animal with her, a leashed dog. Was Yuri avoiding something? He gradually widened the gap between himself and the creature enough so that when they walked past, it wouldn’t come near him. Although by now his determined avoidance had probably become very apparent, it wasn't subtle in the least. Okay, so maybe he was a little wary of canines. Other animals as well, but that's hardly relevant.

Elicia walked Rose, but, it seemed Rose was having trouble understanding the concept for she was practically dragging Elicia from place to place to sniff at shoes, a weed or a clump of sidewalk not covered with snow.
Rose saw the boy, she saw the fact he was avoiding her. This was just a dog thing, it's like they knew when someone was scared of them, or when someone didn't like them. Elicia had also noticed the boy, seeming to drift away from them. Did I do something wrong? She looked hurt for a second before deciding she was going to figure out what was wrong. So, naturally when Rose started to drag Elicia to him, Elicia didn't resist all too much. The puppy whined as she pulled closer, the high pitched noise starting in the back of her throat quietly and growing louder.
"Rose! Hush please, people are looking..." Elicia reprimanded, and indeed people were looking, but, only the few who were near by, probably the ones thinking, 'what is a girl that young doing with just a puppy?' Finally Rose got to the boy and leaped up, yapping with a very squeaky and not threatening bark. The puppy leaped up just enough to aim a few well place licks on the boys coat and shirt front.
"I'm sorry! Rose stop it right no!" Elicia said as she pulled her dog back. "This is Rose, she wouldn't harm a fly and my name is Elicia... What's yours? And, ummm, where is your mother?" Elicia was slightly jealous, she'd never be allowed away from her mother, in fact, she was only allowed to go one block away from the hotel, no further, or else...

Oh god, oh god, it was racing over toward him and making strange noises. ”Ahh…,” Yuri nervously breathed out. It took all of his strength not to show how uncomfortable the puppy’s presence made him, especially as it leaned into him and attacked him with licking. Playful and friendly as it was, the Drachman boy hardly saw it in that light.
Soon enough, the puppy’s owner was trying to get it back under control. Yuri tried to smile, he forced himself, it was only a young girl. Still, he took an extra two steps back, just to be safe. ”Oh—My name’s, uh—“ for a moment, he stood there confused by the second question Elicia had unknowingly interrupted him with. He probably looked too young to be traveling alone, that was upsetting. ”My mother? That’s a weird—I mean, she’s not here. Not here…” it was common for the boy to repeat himself when he was nervous.
”You’re not by yourself… are you?” he wasn’t counting that puppy of hers for anything. He meant parents by that question. Suddenly, he cleared his throat. ”Yuri. Sorry, my name’s Yuri."

Elicia noticed his wariness of the dog and how he backed away. "Are you scared of dogs?" Elicia asked, unaware that the question might offend. She picked Rose up, just in case that was why he seemed, so she wouldn't bother him. The boy is here alone? Well, that doesn't seem fair... "Your mom isn't with you? Why, is she near by?" Now Elicia was worried and she frowned, he didn't seem that much older then her, only a few years. Elicia's mother would have been freaking out if Elicia went of on her own, even if she was a little older.
"No, I'm not alone... My dad is uh..." She paused, Why did I say dad, he's dead... long gone... Elicia sighed and continued, "I mean my mama is up in the hotel over there," Elicia pointed at the building across the road. "It's very nice to meet you Yuri." She continued on, and attempted to sound a little older then she was.
She suddenly grinned at him, not caring whether he was uncomfortable or not. "How old are you? I'm eight, almost nine! Where are you from? I'm from Central. I like it here there is a lot of snow... We don't usually get snow in Central... and if we do it's all mush!" She was just getting started, Elicia had decided from the moment she saw the boy seemed to be avoiding her and/or her dog she was going to be friends with him.
"Do you want to be my friend?" It was a little kid thing to say but, Elicia was tired of trying to act like an adult. She had tried so hard to be older then she was, to be mature and act it, but, once in a while Elicia just wanted a friend she could play with.

"....I'm a lot of things..." he sighed, really he was not completely clear himself on why he disliked them, but animals in general Yuri just did not enjoy being around.
The young girl chatted so frequently that he figured he could get away with not answering her questions fully, some not at all, hoping that as she continued posing more questions toward him that she would forget earlier ones. In short, he didn't like talking about his family.
"Older than you," for a brief moment, the corner of his mouth twisted into a smirk, but then it was gone as quickly as it had appeared. What was a girl her age doing talking to him anyway...? It was somewhat funny how excited she seemed to be when it came to talking about herself, and then asking a complete stranger about himself. But to be brutally honest, Yuri did not think of himself as interesting in even the smallest light.
He was rather dumbfounded by her final question, not sure of what to say to her, or, well, the problem was more of a 'how can I say this?' sort of thing. Obviously, the preteen did not want to hurt the child, but it just seemed odd to him. He probably wouldn't be able to be a good friend to her and anyway, it wasn't as though they were likely to see each other again after this. Yuri blinked rapidly, biting his lip as he thought about how to decline her, until finally he decided to dodge that question as well. "I'm actually not from Amestris, I'm from Drachma. Way past the mountains in the north. Uhh--and well, it's always snowing up there, you know?"

She looked down for a second, he seems to be avoiding some of my question, but, I guess I'll leave him alone, mama says I can be too pushy sometimes. "I'm sorry, I guess it may be weird for me to just come up and start talking to you..." She smiled hoping the boy, Yuri would forgive her for her... friendliness? Elicia twirled one strand of her hair and stopped abruptly as Yuri told her where he was from.
"Drach.... Drachma? Really? That's amazing!" She could just imagine piles of snow that if she went Rose and her would run around and jump into. Much better then Central. Then a thought occurred to her. "Do they use alchemy there? Is it different from Amestris alchemy?" She cocked her head and waited. wait a second...
"Do you know what Amestris alchemy is like? This she asked clearly to him but her next words were purely thoughts spoken out loud. "I think that they would be sim... sim... similiar... But, there might be differences in how the transmutation circle was drawn. And maybe they have a different use for it like Alkestry is for healing... Ed told me about that..." Elicia though for a second more before she blushed and looked at him apologetically.
"I'm sorry, but I am an alchemist and Ed and Al sayed, said, that there could be different types of alchemy. So I was just wondering." She smiled and adjusted her hold on Rose, who was growing tired of being held. Oh dear, Rose... This boy doesn't like you, stop squirming! Elicia thought... Now if only she could perfect her 'mind control'.

Elicia was right, spot on, he wasn't used to talking to strangers for just no apparent reason at all. Friends weren't that easily made in his book. Even strangers didn't become acquaintances so easily! Then again, maybe the boy just wasn't used to friendly people? Maybe that was it, something between the way she was so openly talking to him and his general anxiety around people he didn't know.
Seemed the Drachma thing had caught her attention, it made Yuri wonder just how many people in Amestris really knew any Drachmans for real. It wasn't exactly easy to cross the border... errr, legally especially... "Some do," sure, they used alchemy up there. It wasn't a huge widespread practice though.
"Actually, I don--" uhm, maybe it would be better to wait until the girl was done speaking. It sounded as though she still had more to say about the differences in alchemy between countries. The only differences that Yuri knew for sure was between the alchemy he had known and alkahestry from Xing. Which, after he heard Elicia speak the words, he could tell that she knew of the same variation. And of course, he was a bit lost when she started mentioning some person named Ed and another named Al. Not that he saw any relevance there, just two people the girl knew.
"I kinda... haven't been here long. What's the alchemy like?" At this point, he had seen no Amestrian alchemists in action. Then again, Yuri only knew alchemy itself to a certain point, the type he had studied alongside his mother, and would not be demonstrating it any time soon to compare possible differences... "I know what you mean by Alkahestry though, it's certainly different. I--I met a Xingese traveler once."

Elicia listened and imagined it, an icy area is what she saw, maybe they use igloos? In her mind's eye she pictured people like this boy making igloos with alchemy. She wondered about the differences and it was interesting to her, which, if thought about didn't make sense. Why would an eight year old be interested in science and math and alchemical things like that but then be bored of things that other girls her age were interested in. Elicia loved dolls and such, but, she didn't like the makeup that some of her friends were expressing interest in. She didn't understand it, it seemed like to much work to Elicia. But, then again, her friends didn't understand alchemy.
"Haven't been here long? I guess that makes sense..." She said quietly to herself. What was alchemy like here? To Elicia it seemed more based on fighting then anything else. Rose squirmed again in Elicia's arms so Elicia set her down. "I'll show you some of our alchemy." Elicia crouched down and with one arm holding back Rose drew a little transmutation circle in the snow. She then pushed Rose back further and clamped the puppy between her knees while Elicia performed alchemy.
A white flash, electric looking was emitted from the circle. She pulled from the concrete a thick ring and she folded it over so it was an upside down "U". Elicia then tied Rose's leash to the hook thing. "There now she can't bother you and I don't have to hold her." She grinned and admired the little hook sort thing protruding from the ground.
Rose pulled against it and then gave up, she knew it was no use. Elicia spoke answering his question, "Alchemy here? It's for fighting. I don't know why exactly. But, it's for fighting. For the army." She shrugged as if it was just a fact of life. Just a fact that something as versatile as alchemy, something that could save people's lives was just used for murder.
OOC: Sorry for the messiness of the post, I was losing track a bit...
